Unofficial CD32/CDTV/Amiga Release - More! Lemmings

Ever since i played Lemmings for the first time back in 1991, its stayed one of my favourite games of all time. And whilst i enjoyed its sequels and spin-offs, the original to me will never be bettered. Sadly for the Amiga, the various level editors and clones over the past decade are only for PC's and Mac's meaning the Amiga hasn't had any new levels since the original games over 20 years ago!

Until now! I'm proud to present 'More! Lemmings', which contains 120 new levels to be played through, never seen on the Amiga before.
Fully playable with a Mouse or Joypad if you own a CD32, or Infared Remote or Mouse for CDTV owners.

Unofficial CD32 Release - Psygnosis : The Complete Amiga Works

2016 is the 30th Anniversary of Psygnosis' first Amiga game 'Brataccas'. Psygnosis were one of the most influential Amiga publishers over the 10 years they published for games for it. Many will recall Shadow Of The Beast being one of the major turning points to setting the Amiga aside from the Atari ST, PC and other home computers at the time.

As mentioned Psygnosis were the joint longest supporting Publishers for the Amiga, having supported the platform with releases over 10 years from 1986 to 1995, they were also in the top 5 Amiga Publishers of total unique game releases.

For the last 3 month's on and off, I've put this huge collection together, and unlike other compilations from years past, this time each and every game is playable on a stock CD32, yes my hair is thinner because of it (curse you Armour Geddon II!).

All my other releases I've made every game compatible with the cd32 pad, but due to the sheer amount of games and wanting a complete collection this unfortunately isn't possible, with some games requiring too many keyboard commands to fit on the CD32 pads 7 buttons! But still over 50 games are playable just with the CD32 pad, 10 or so need a mouse and around 5 titles also need
a keyboard, details of all these can be found in the readme, they are also listed on the CD so you know before you load each game.

Each and every game has been tested to try and bring you the best control method for the CD32 controller if possible with many games having controls mapped to the CD32 pad, along with improvements in some games i.e Globdule now runs at 60fps, and Red Zone runs at a more acceptable speed!

Game Selection Screen

There's too many games too list on this blog post what's on the disc, the full list can be found in the readme included in the download;

But the main premise of the disc includes;
  • 68 full released games (+Microcosm on Disc 2)
  • 1 full unreleased game
  • 2 demos of unreleased games
  • 2 demos with unique levels not in full releases
  • CDTV Psygnosis Demo
  • Musical Slideshow of other Unreleased Games
  • Musical Slideshow of Psygnosis Box Art

Unofficial CD32 Release - Seven Over Par - Amiga Golf Classics

Well after a summer break from making CD32 packs, I've been busy putting some of my best packs together in the run-up to Christmas, today's release is the last in my sports collection for this year, and tie's in with the Ryder Cup which starts the first round on Thursday.
Unfortanately i couldnt get every golf game i wanted to include, as either they refused to load with CD32Load or needed a keyboard command somewhere in the game (which only CD32Load could have provided) but it's still an amazing collection of Golf games, and six of the seven games can be played with the joypad too! (See included Read Me! for game controls)

7 games are included on the disc, these are;
  • Links (US Gold, 1992)
  • Nick Faldo's Championship Golf (Grandslam, 1993-4)
  • PGA European Tour (Ocean, 1994-5)
  • Ryder Cup (Ocean 1993-94)
  • Sensible Golf (Virgin, 1995)
  • Tournament Golf (Elite, 1990)
  • World Class Leaderboard Golf (US Gold, 1988)

Reshoot CD32 Review

So here we have the first professional pressed CD32 game since 1998, a full 18 years ago!

The first thing you notice when you receive this game is the game package, it's very professional, it comes in a DVD style box (I would have preferred the traditional jewel case for CD32 games, but seeing it's such a high standard they can be forgiven!).

The disc is professionally pressed as mentioned above, not just a CD-R with a label on case you were worried! It also comes with a great looking 16 page manual/mini magazine, it even smells like an old manual, not that I'm addicted to smelling game manuals I hope you understand! More that it has been printed to a high standard! The booklet contains the coders history and memories of writing the game which is a nice touch too.

First things first, it's not for softened gamers used to muliple lives and continues, this is hardcore 80's gaming, you get one life, thats it, no life bar etc, again this is something we aren't use too nowadays, but it certainly gives it that retro arcade feeling.
 Reshoot CD32 Package

The enemies have a satisfying 'crunchy' explosion which is always a plus in my book in a game where that is all you will be doing is destroying the opposition.

Movement of your ship is fluid enough, sure it could have been faster, but then the enemies would had have to been sped up to compensate, I think the compromise is pretty accurate, and considering how many times I have been playing this weekend, and sure it's different, but not to the point where in some games you think 'this is impossible' that it puts you off playing, where as here every time I have died I know I could have avoided death.

Graphically I personally like the look, the rotating player cube looks really good, the movement of enemies is smooth and they animate very well, I'm glad he managed to get a layer of parallax in there albeit at the expense of a few more colours from the earlier demo. Again other compromises have had to be made in colours to keep the game at 50fps, the amount of bullets later on is incredible in an Amiga game!
Musically the game has a decent track on the main menu that I'm listening too whilst typing this, toe tapping stuff, its no Tim Wright or Chris Huesbeck but its ok. In-game wise it's not quite on the same league, think of it more as 'extended SFX' with the in-game 'tune' changing with the tempo of the game.

Summing-up the whole package, I feel the omission of pause and high score save are a let down, yes they may be a patch later for Amiga owners, but CD32 owners are stuck without which is shame for a game which is based on high scores.

As you can probably tell I have enjoyed the game, its fun to play and addictive too boot,  of course it's not perfect, the retail price is a little high, postage removed comes out around £30 for the UK, which is comparable to commercial CD32 titles back in the day, but I do appreciate the professional disc and manual this comes with, I think they have done a great job here and wish others would support developers like Richard Löwenstein in making more professionally made CD32 titles.

Plus:
Addictive & fun to play
Nice smooth 50fps graphics

Minus:
No pause
No local high score save

Not perfect, but fun, addictive and well worth the punt!

Unofficial CD32 Release - Hunter CD32 - 25th Anniversary Edition

I only intended to release a single game on a CD32 disc as its one of my favourite all time Amiga games, it was supposed to be released back in Feb as my very first disc, which never turned out that way because it had some graphical glitches running through CD32Load.

And to get Hunter playable the controls had to be mapped to the CD32 pad which only CD32Load allowed, thanks to JOTD and Earok this is now fully possible using the 'filecache' option to fix the gfx problems i had before.

NOTE!
But before you download and burn, please respect in the knowledge that this version is buggy, the virtual mouse has a tendency to auto select things especially on the main menu, the best way to select the option on the menu is go either side of the selection you want, then move onto it and it will select it automatically.
MAIN CONTROLS:
===============
RED = FIRE WEAPON
BLUE = EXIT VEHICLE
GREEN = ACTIVATE VIRTUAL MOUSE (BLUE TO SELECT ITEMS)
YELLOW = ACTIVATE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD
PLAY = PAUSE
RW "<<" = 3RD PERSON VIEW ZOOM IN
FF ">>" = 3RD PERSON VIEW ZOOM OUT

PRESSING BOTH RW & FW TOGETHER BRINGS UP THE MENU.

SPECIAL THANKS TO:
------------------------------
Thanks to JOTD for the great CD32Load Utility.
Earok and JOTD for the very useful Virtual Keyboard & Keyboad Remapping Utilities.
The guys behind the awesome WHDLoad.
Harry for the WHDLoad version of Hunter.
And finally to Paul Holmes the creator of this amazing game!

Unofficial CD32 Release - Unreleased Amiga Game Collection

My next release for the CD32 is ready for download, its called 'Unreleased Amiga Game Collection' very catchy i know!

Basically it contains games what were never released during the Amiga's reign, even though some of the games were complete, they were canned and left to rot along with the demise of Commodore, i did release a couple of these titles a few months ago in the name of Snow Bros and Liquid Kids, but i thought why not have them all in one place and on one disc?

This compilation is an on-going project and every 6 months or so will get an update with additional unreleased games and demos to play, but for now and to get release one out the door here's the fine line-up of games to play, some have been enhanced with CD32 controls too!

Full Games - 9
